Superstitions: shaking my leg

Every country and culture seems to have its own superstitions (beliefs about good and bad luck). One thing I love doing is shaking my leg when I'm sitting and talking with people. And I do this when I'm talking with students and sometimes they remind me that this is a bad habit. They tell me that it brings bad luck.
I don't want bad luck so I try to get a grip (take control of myself) on this habit. Interestingly, some years ago I had a German girlfriend. When we drank she insisted that I look into the eyes of the other people we were drinking with when clinked glasses (touching glasses together before drinking and saying "cheers"). In fact she got a little angry if I didn't look into others' eyes and I think she thought it was the culture throughout the world. It was interesting to hear her friends tell me that in Germany failing to look into the eyes of others would bring bad luck. The bad luck was that you would not have sex for 7 years.
Learning what happens in other cultures is interesting. I don't notice that I have picked up on (adopted or started to understand or use) some Korean cultural habits until I visit my home country and friends notice I don't pour someone else's beer until their glass is completely empty
